Lessons I-VII and Quilting Archives

Step Two

This entry is part 3 of 8 in the Quilting Project Series
Section 2 is made from two units. The first is made up of three paper-pieced blocks 4″ x 4″ (8″ x 8″). I made two simple heart blocks and one pine tree block. Other motifs could include a star, bell, Christmas ornament, stocking, or candy cane. Arrange the three blocks as desired and sew together in a strip.
The second contains six Diamond-in-a-Square blocks. These may be constructed using paper-piecing or by snowballing the corners onto a square of BG1. The finished block size is 2″ x 2″ (4″ x 4″). Sew these completed blocks together to form a strip.
Finally, sew the two units together along the long edge. I chose to place the hearts/pine tree unit above the smaller strip, as shown.
