Lessons I-VII and Quilting Archives

Step One

This entry is part 2 of 8 in the Quilting Project Series
Section 1 consists of a feature panel of BG2 for applique: 9″ x 6″ (18″ x 12″). Use a motif of your choice, such as an angel, wreath, Christmas bell, poinsettia, etc. I used a dove, outlined with narrow gold bias tape as in “Stained Glass” applique. I also added a thin layer of batting between the white fabric and the BG. Details such as the wing shape, eye, and feathers will be incorporated into the quilting stitches to be added later.

As shown in the third photo, the next part of Section 1 is made from two patchwork blocks, either 9-patch or 4-patch. I chose to use two 4-patch blocks, 3″ x 3″ (6″ x 6″). Sew the two patchwork blocks together and then join to the smaller edge of the feature panel. I chose to place them to the left side of the dove.
