IX Step One



MATERIALS NEEDED:

    RULERS (regular 12 “ and see-though Omnigrid
    type, 24 “ long preferred)
    CUTTING MAT & ROTARY CUTTER
    SEWING SUPPLIES: THREAD (off white or white),
    NEEDLES, SCISSORS, PINS

FABRIC: You will need a variety of prints, light to medium in tone, for the 4 patches, a total of about 1 ¾ yards in all. The more different prints you use, the more interesting the quilt will be.

Dark contrasting fabric for the Star blocks, border & binding: 2¼ yards for larger quilt, 1 ¾ yards for smaller.
(Purchase backing and batting later, after size of project is determined.)
Wash, machine dry, and press your material.

Suggested sizes/projects:

    Small wall hanging/ 30” x 40”w/o borders: need 48 blocks*
    Wall hanging/ 40” x 50”w/o borders: need 80 blocks*
    (* Using 3” and 5 ½” squares to make up the blocks)

CUTTING:

Print fabric: Cut into 3” squares. You will need 144 (240) squares.
Contrast Dark fabric: Cut into 5 ½” squares. Need 24 (40)

SEWING: 4-Patch Block

Make these blocks by sewing sets of 2 assorted 3” print squares together and then joining two of these sets to make the 4-Patch. Block should measure 5 ½” square including seam allowances.
Make 24 (40) of the 4-Patch blocks.
